The AEC (architecture, engineering, construction) sector is mid-way through a painful digital transformation, with BIM mandates spreading across EU and UK public projects and US infrastructure spending pushing firms to modernize workflows — creating real pull for interoperability tooling right now. Autodesk's Construction Cloud is the dominant incumbent and handles IFC and some geospatial formats, but its cost and complexity lock out smaller firms and subcontractors who just need to view and share files without a full platform contract. The $5k–$20k/mo revenue band is plausible if you land 50–200 mid-size firms on a per-seat or storage model, but AEC sales cycles are notoriously slow and often require enterprise procurement approval, which compresses early revenue and burns runway. The biggest risk is that free or low-cost viewers like Trimble's online IFC viewer or open-source options (xeokit, that.GLB) satisfy the "good enough" bar for most teams, making willingness-to-pay genuinely hard to establish.
