AI Model API Gateway

Idea

Developers need to switch between multiple AI models (OpenAI, Anthropic, Cohere, etc.) but each has a different API. A unified, OpenAI-compatible gateway abstracts all models behind one standard interface. Target: developers building multi-model AI applications.

Why this is interesting

The explosion of serious model competition in 2024-2025 — with Anthropic, Google, Mistral, and others all releasing credible alternatives to OpenAI — means developers are actively managing multi-model workflows rather than just defaulting to one provider, which makes a unified abstraction layer genuinely useful today rather than theoretical. LiteLLM is the obvious incumbent here and it's open-source, well-maintained, and already widely adopted, which is the central problem: the free version does most of what paying customers would want. The $2k-10k/mo band is plausible only if the product layers in something LiteLLM doesn't — enterprise auth, spend controls, observability, or reliability SLAs — because raw routing isn't a payable feature for most developers. The most likely failure mode is building a managed wrapper around an open-source tool that the target customer would rather self-host.
