The explosion of AI coding agents — Cursor, Devin, GitHub Copilot Workspace — has created genuine friction with existing project management tools that were built around human task granularity and manual status updates; teams are duct-taping agents into Jira with webhooks and it's ugly. Linear is the closest incumbent in the "Jira is too heavy" lane and already has strong developer loyalty, which means differentiation has to be deeply agent-native, not just a cleaner UI with an AI chatbot bolted on. The $2k–10k/mo band is plausible for a focused SaaS targeting dev teams, but only if it lands on a per-seat or per-agent model that scales with usage — the danger is building something that works great as a free tool and struggles to justify a recurring charge once novelty wears off. The biggest risk is that the major players (Linear, Jira, even GitHub Projects) ship "agent mode" features fast enough to close the gap before there's a defensible customer base, leaving a thin wedge product with no moat.
