The open-source alternative angle is a modest differentiator, but it's a thin one that a free Hugging Face model or Google Fonts tooling increasingly covers. At $1k–5k/mo, the revenue ceiling assumes either a niche B2B wedge with genuine switching costs or volume API usage, neither of which is obvious when the incumbent is free for casual use and well-known to the exact audience being targeted. The most likely failure mode is that the total addressable market of people willing to pay for font recognition via API is simply too small to sustain a standalone product — it's a feature, not a business.
