Idea

A minimal, RAM-efficient API testing tool (alternative to Postman/Insomnia) that stores requests as plain YAML files and works offline. Target developers frustrated with bloated clients and mandatory cloud accounts.

Why this is interesting

Postman's forced cloud sync and Insomnia's acquisition by Kong (followed by backlash over its licensing changes) have left a real gap of developer goodwill, and the YAML-as-source-of-truth angle fits neatly into the broader shift toward local-first, git-friendly tooling. Bruno is the closest direct competitor and already has meaningful traction on GitHub, which is both validation and a warning — it's open-source and free, meaning the default substitute is free. The $1k–5k/mo band is plausible only through a paid tier (team features, CI integration, sync) or a one-time license model, since developers allergic to Postman's pricing are also resistant to subscriptions. The biggest risk is Bruno itself: it has first-mover advantage, an active community, and no paywall, making differentiation on features alone very hard to sustain.
