PII Redactor – Local Data Privacy Tool
A desktop app that detects and redacts personally identifiable information (PII) before sending text to AI tools, keeping sensitive data local. Users sharing data with ChatGPT, Claude, or other AI tools need to anonymize information first without uploading to external services.
Privacy regulations like GDPR and CCPA, combined with growing enterprise AI adoption policies that explicitly prohibit sending PII to third-party models, have made local redaction a real compliance pain point in 2024–2025. Microsoft Presidio is the closest substitute — it's open-source and capable, which is the central problem here: any developer evaluating a paid tool will find Presidio first and self-host it in an afternoon. The $1k–5k/mo revenue band assumes a consumer or prosumer audience willing to pay for convenience over DIY, but the people most aware of PII risk (developers, compliance teams) are exactly the people least likely to pay for a wrapper around something free. The most likely failure mode is the market splitting into enterprises that need a full DLP solution (too small to serve) and individual users who won't pay more than a one-time $10 for this kind of utility.
