Airbnb quietly gutted its category browsing UI in recent updates, and user frustration has been loud enough on Reddit and travel forums to signal real unmet demand. No clear incumbent exists — affiliate-driven Airbnb scrapers tend to focus on price comparison, not discovery-by-vibe. The $1k–5k/mo revenue band is plausible through Airbnb's affiliate program, but commission rates are thin (~3–5%) and traffic volume needs to be substantial to hit even the low end, which means SEO or social distribution is load-bearing from day one. The biggest risk is Airbnb re-adding the feature natively — they've done it before — which would kill the core use case overnight with no warning.
