Precision livestock technology is a genuine growth area — RFID ear tags and IoT sensors are becoming cheap enough that small farms can actually afford them, and USDA traceability mandates (like the 2024 cattle ID rule) are pushing farmers toward digital record-keeping whether they want to or not. No clear incumbent dominates the small-farm segment; enterprise players like Allflex and CattleMax exist but are either expensive or desktop-bound, leaving real room for a mobile-first tool. The $1k–5k/mo revenue band is plausible but tight — farm counts are large in aggregate yet individual willingness to pay is low, so reaching even $3k/mo likely requires either a per-head pricing model or bundling hardware margin into the business. The biggest risk is distribution: farmers are notoriously hard to reach through digital channels, churn when seasons end, and often share software recommendations through co-ops and feed stores rather than app stores, so customer acquisition cost can silently kill the unit economics before product-market fit is confirmed.
